The Four Types of ADAS

Many modern vehicles are equipped with some form of ADAS which includes a range of driver assistance features such as lane departure warnings or automatic emergency braking. What you might not know, is that there are four different types of ADAS, all of which require recalibration after a windshield replacement.

Adaptive

These systems change and adapt based on information from the surrounding environment

Automated

These systems take over certain functions that the driver cannot do safely

Monitoring

These systems use sensors, cameras, or other tech to observe the surrounding area. Additionally, they assess driving patterns to determine whether a correction needs to be made.

Warning

These systems alert the driver to potential issues in their own driving or the driving of others that could increase the risk of injury to those in the vehicle

All of the features included in these systems will need recalibration after a windshield replacement, but if you are the curious type, here is a short list of some common ADAS systems in use. Of course, more will develop as time goes on, such as fully autonomous vehicles.

ADAS systems:

  • Adaptive Cruise Control
  • Automatic Braking System
  • Automatic Parking
  • Blind Spot Monitoring
  • Adaptive Light Control
  • Pedestrian Monitors
  • Proximity Monitors
  • Driver Drowsiness Detection
  • Collision Avoidance System
  • Forward Collision Warning
  • Lane Keep Assist
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Adaptive Headlights
